No matter who our people vote for, they show the value of democracy and show the world that Taiwan values democracy and freedom.
I want to show my respect to Mayor Han. I believe there will be room for cooperation in the future despite our political differences. Thank you to every citizen who voted for the DPP for choosing the values of democracy.
Those too late or too bad, we’ll do better, build a better country, a more competitive economy, a better education system; and, of course, strengthening national security policy. Tsai Ing-wen and my team will work even harder in the next four years.
Thanks to our international friends for supporting Taiwan’s democracy. The election is expected to show the international community Taiwanese support for democratic values. We also hope that Taiwan will have a fair opportunity to participate in international affairs.
We hope to maintain regional peace with various countries and see Taiwan as a partner rather than a problem maker.
The government has defended Taiwan’s sovereignty for three years, even under Chinese military intimidation.
In the face of Chinese attempts to change the status quo across the Taiwan strait, such as one country, two systems, Taiwan will continue to enhance its national security capabilities. Tsai Ing-wen promised to keep the peace, but both sides have a responsibility to maintain long-term stability.
Peace is China must give up its military threat to Taiwan, democracy is the right of Taiwan’s 23 million people, dialogue is that the two sides can sit down and talk about future development. Hope Beijing can understand that Taiwan’s democratically elected government and that democratic Taiwan will not give in, as the results of this election make it very clear.
The election is over. Let’s hope the supporters don’t stir up any more of their opponents’ supporters, and all the people can unite. From tomorrow, Tsai Ing-wen team will continue to work hard and live up to the expectations of everyone.
