Russia’s oil drilling in the South China Sea
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte proposed a joint oil and gas exploration with Russia in waters the Philippines claims in the South China Sea during his second official visit to Russia in October. Russian energy company Rosneft went to Manila to discuss later that month.
At the ASEAN foreign ministers’ meeting this year in Bangkok, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s request made to his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov to stop Rosneft’s oil drilling joint project with Vietnam was declined.
