At Geng Shuang’s regular press conference on December 19th, 2019, he strongly opposed the passage of this policy and act.
Q: Reports say that the US House Foreign Affairs Committee passed the Tibetan Policy and Support Act of 2019 on December 18. Do you have any comment?
A: The US House Foreign Affairs Committee passed the Tibetan Policy and Support Act of 2019 in serious violation of international law and basic norms governing international relations. It blatantly interferes in China’s internal affairs and sends a wrong signal to the “Tibetan independent” forces. We made representations to the US and expressed deploring and strong opposition.
China’s policy and position on Tibet-related issues is clear and consistent. Tibetan affairs are our internal affairs that allow no foreign interference. The US bill accuses China in an unfounded and biased way. We cannot accept that. We urge the US to fully recognize the highly sensitive nature of Tibet-related issues, honor its commitments to China, and stop pushing that bill or using those issues as a pretext to interfere in China’s domestic affairs.
