New HKSAR Police Chief will take ‘hard and soft’ approaches against protesters

Chris Tang Ping-keung, the new commissioner of police of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) said the police will take both “hard and soft” approaches when dealing with protesters.

When pressed by the media on Saturday afternoon, Tang said Hong Kong police will not tolerate violent acts and resolute action would be taken against protesters, while human-oriented, more flexible approaches will be used in minor incidents.

Tang led a delegation of the Hong Kong Police Force to watch the flag-raising ceremony in Beijing on Saturday morning.
