Police Storm HKPORI Office, Suspected with Access to Computer with Dishonest Intent

The Pan-Democratic Primary Elections are to be held in the following two days (11 July – 12 July). Erick Tsang, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, had previously stated that the Primary Elections may involve (or constitute) electoral fraud, making organizers and participants guilty. The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data has expressed concerns regarding the issue.

The police stormed the Hong Kong Public Opinion Research Institute (HKPORI) Office, an office which has been tasked with the design of the voting system, with a search warrant. It is suspected that the Police is investigating the office for evidence of individuals accessing computers with dishonest intent, with the intention to confiscate all computers in the Institute. Staff stated that Dr Robert Chung, head of HKPORI, was not in the office, and is now negotiating with the police. Lawyers have also arrived at the scene.
