Mass Deaths and Injuries from Gasoline Explosion in China

At 16:46 on June 13, 2020, an oil tanker exploded on the G15 Shenhai Expressway in Wenling City, Zhejiang Province. The tanker truck transported liquefied gas from Ningbo to Wenzhou. When it came out of the highway and took the 104 national highway, it exploded on the ramp and flipped out of the highway. As of 7 o’clock on June 15, the accident caused 20 deaths and 172 hospitalizations.

The video of this accident went viral on internet initially. The first thing the CCP does was not to take care of the victims or their families, investigate the cause of the accident as soon as possible and make improvements to the transportation of hazardous goods, but to censor the information on the Internet and delete comments that are “negative” to them. CCP also tried to obscure the the fact that the accident indeed happened by releasing misleading announcement.

As we all know, the grade and quality of China’s gasoline and diesel has been widely criticized. Experts have converted that the best gasoline in mainland China can barely match the quality of regular gasoline in US. In other words, most of China’s lower-grade gasoline does not even meet the standards, as a result there are certain safety risks during transportation and use.

In order to save costs during the transportation process, CCP chose to cut corners for the transportation of hazardous goods. In addition, to maximize profits, many trucks are overloaded with twice the amount that the regulations allow. Overweight trucks on the highway can cause higher chance of accidents due to difficulty in braking and wider turns. In addition, the CCP does not have effective legislation to stipulate the packaging measures of commercial transportation vehicles, which leads to many safety hazards. Those vehicles may drop, spill or leak the contents on the route, and the rear vehicles sometimes run over those hazardous items floating on the highway which causes tire punctures and windshield smashes, or even worse, crashes.

On the contrary, in US no vehicle is allowed to be driven or moved on any highway unless the vehicle is properly secured, including passing inspection standards routinely, possessing regular maintenance record, and being covered to prevent dropping. Furthermore, there are weigh stations readily accessible across US for safer long-distance transportation by monitoring the weight of the trucks to ensure that it falls within the safety guidelines. Regarding the problem of sleep-deprived driving or drowsy driving, the US government introduced electronic monitoring, which requires truck drivers to take a 10-hour break after driving for 11 hours. Strict legal regulations reduce the chance of accidents. To the opposite, CCP pursues economic gains without placing safety and human lives as priority. Such a faulty system must be terminated from crushing more human lives!
