Excuses Gathered by CCP for its control of education in HK

Author: FineFood,SeaMoon

An article aiming at justifying the intervention in the educational system of Hong Kong was published by the People’s Daily and got reproduced by NetEase News. The article reported a question in a mock exam paper prepared by a local school for Primary 6 students (sixth graders). Candidates were asked to choose one option among four to fill the cloze of a sentence, which read “councillors unanimously (blank) the police for excessive use of force and demanded the related officials to be held accountable.” The options were “grumbled, rebuked, condemned, reprimanded”.

Without any discussion about the crackdown of protests for freedom and democracy nor an examination of proper use of police force, the article accused the exam question of fanning the hatred for the police. In fact, there had been judicial convictions and sentences of police officers for inflicting injuries upon demonstrators and passers-by during protests in 2014. The author merely described the examination script in question as a form of spreading “toxins” among the pupils for the purpose of disseminating extremism at school.

According to the passage, there had been a pressing need for an overhaul of the educational system of Hong Kong. In which, teaching materials and educators of kindergarten, primary schools, secondary schools and tertiary educational institutes should all be included to wipe out any “black hand” purporting to subvert China and sabotage Hong Kong.

Perhaps it is time to reiterate the difference between teaching students how to think and what to think, and the importance of such distinction. Under the CCP’s direction, the administration of Hong Kong has already triggered the process of encroaching their black hand into the field of education. More propaganda of the same kind is to be expected.
