HK Media Lens: HKers demand independence amidst Beijing’s crackdown

Hong Kong police fired tear gas and made at least 180 arrests after protesters gathered in Causeway Bay to rally against the looming national security law. Hong Kong Free Press recorded how police brutality turned a civilized city into a warzone on May 24th, 2020.

The protestors added a new slogan: “One Hong Kong, One Nation”. Hongkongers have been fed up with the CCP’s lies of “high degree autonomy” and demand for independence. This is the first time the outcry for independence becomes an overwhelming demand.

Although the “Anti-Extradition Law Movement” has lasted almost a year, most of the protestors demanded for “universal suffrages” and “disbanding police force”. However, the police brutality become increasingly outrageous, and Beijing is crushing down the protests with thuggish terrorist tactics, the demand for independence suddenly became dominant on May 24 protest.

Even a group of armed policemen were scared to retreat by the armless protestors with a grandma stepping to the front.

However, in most of the situation, the police officers bullied the citizens like terrorists. The US Congressman Scott Perry proposed to “authorized the President to recognize the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as a separate, independent country.”
