While the epidemic of Wuhan Coronavirus has been deteriorating, the HKSAR government has yet to carry out a complete closure of HK-China borders. Today, the Hong Kong Dragon Airlines Flight Attendants Association initiated an assembly outside Tung Chung MTR Station, demanding the government to completely seal the borders, saying that they would not rule out the possibility of an immediate strike with support of sufficient members.
The spokesperson stated that in the moment, 462 members have voted for a strike. However, they have received threats from senior management, saying that such an action of strike was illegal. The Association hoped to negotiate with the upper management, but has yet received any response. Thus, they would organize a “Wildcat Strike Action” to catch the management off guard.
The spokesperson also made it blunt that they found it ridiculous for the senior management to threaten their employees instead of pacifying them. At present, frontline employees could be exempted from mandatory quarantine, even though they were at high risk of being infected. As the infected could be a source of the virus, quarantine was no longer effective. They were simply trying not to foster the spread of the disease. Hence, through this assembly, they wanted to the public to under the reasons for their strike and to show support.
